Q: Can you deliver/collect at weekends?
A: Yes we are able to do this, however there will be an additional charge for this.
Q: What delivery area do you cover?
A: Using a wide range of transport facilities, we can deliver anywhere in the world.
Q: How soon can you deliver to site?
A: Provided we have the item you require in stock and depending on our transport team, we are able to deliver immediately.
Q: How much notice do you require?
A: This depends on the scale of the project. We would recommend that you provide at least 48 hours notice, however, in case of an emergency we can endeavour to deliver immediately.
Q: How are PKL Portable Kitchens delivered?
A: The units are delivered on a flat bed or Hiab lorry with an overall length of 10.51m, width of 2.60m and height of 4.20m. When planning for your temporary kitchen, please check access routes to site taking into account potentially soft ground, gateposts, low bridges, trees, overhead wires and turning circles. Off loading will be carried out by an experienced PKL driver using hydraulic bottle jacks. For problem sites, the unit can be positioned by a minimum 20 tonne crane or a Hiab lorry which has an overall length of 14.00m, width of 2.60m and height of 4.30m.
Q: How is the catering equipment delivered?
A: Catering equipment is delivered to you by both our own fleet of delivery vehicles and a reliable network of external transport facilities. A 7.5 tonne kit lorry is used for smaller loads whereas a 17 tonne kit lorry is usually used for larger equipment requirements. For emergencies or late summer bookings we sometimes outsource delivery requirements to a reliable transport company to ensure that your delivery date is met.
For single items that can be couriered overnight anywhere in the UK we have a delivery service called Lock & Load. With this method the item is packed in reusable packaging that can be carried and delivered by our chosen courier service meaning your catering equipment can be delivered quickly and cheaply.
Q: Do you offer sequence/phase deliveries?
A: Yes. Please discuss the details with your PKL contact and they will arrange this for you.
Q: What do I need to do to prepare my site?
A: If you are hiring a Portable Kitchen you need to check access to your site ensuring that the transport method we are using is suitable. If you have any concerns please ask a member of our sales team and they can organise a free site survey. You will also need to advise our sales team of the ground type, as we may need to provide spreader pads or arrange for Trakway to be used. You must ensure that you have organised for the services to be ready for connection and you have the correct engineers for this work.
If you are hiring catering equipment you must again ensure that there is sufficient access to where the equipment is to be situated e.g. check doorways and passageway widths. You will need to advise our sales team if there are any stairs or lifts en route so that we can ensure there is enough manpower to deliver the equipment. You must ensure that services are arranged and an engineer will be available to connect them for you.
Q: What happens if we need to close the road?
A: For projects that may require road closures we are able to arrange and project manage this on your behalf. Simply advise your sales contact of this during your site survey and we will then make the necessary arrangements.
Q: Can you deliver on grass?
A: We are able to deliver units onto grass areas using spreader pads or concrete blocks to position the jack legs on. Should we need to drive the lorry over grass we would require Trackway to be laid to minimise the impact on the area and to ensure that the lorries do not get stuck.
Q: How do you level the Portable Kitchen units?
A: We have a dedicated transport team who level the units on site for you using the jack legs.
Q: Do you provide Method Statements and Risk Assessments?
A: Yes. In line with good practice, PKL have Risk Assessments for all delivery, installation and construction works. These are provided as required. For large projects, detailed Method Statements are supplied for both installation and removal. Please contact our sales team to discuss this in more detail.
Q: Can I contact the driver?
A: All of our transportation team have mobile phones and in addition are contactable via email even when on the road. Should you have any information for them or any queries please contact our sales team first and they will contact the driver on your behalf.
Q: Do I need to be on site for delivery and collection?
A: We would ask that there is a pre-designated contact on site for the time of delivery and collection to ensure that the handovers are completed correctly. They will not need to assist with any of the positioning of the units.
Q: Can I pick up my own Portable Kitchen?
A: Yes. However, we would need to have a Method Statement and correct insurance details. Please discuss this with your PKL sales contact.
Q: Can we move the units once delivered on site?
A: Our Portable Kitchens are static once we have delivered and positioned them for you on site. However should you require them to be moved during the hire, we can arrange this at an additional charge. We would advise that you do not undertake this, but should it be necessary, provided Method Statements and insurance documents are valid, you can do so at your own risk.
Q: What do I need to have prior to collection?
A: You will need to ensure that the Portable Kitchens and catering equipment have been cleaned and that all services have been switched off and disconnected correctly. Please check that access to site is cleared. We will also require there to be someone to sign our collection notes at time of collection.
